Delha Rote Hoped to Give a Positive Feedback for the Local Community of East Nusa Tenggara
TIMESHONGKONG, FLORES – Delha Rote, an area in Rote island of East Nusa Tenggara has a stunning beach with it's beautiful wave which is very suitable for surfing. This beach was formerly used by the local community to grow some sea weed too.
Sea weed was the main business which support the local community. But now, that almost all area around the coast is legally bought by the tourist, the local community seems has no more control to the place that support their economy.
This was stated by the study held by Fitri Ciptosari, S. Tr. Par., M. Si pn the Annual Conference on Social Justice (ACSJ) 2019 at Neo Aston Hotel Kupang, NTT, on Wednesday (4/12/2019).
In his research Fitri stated that mostly those tourists coming to Delha Rote were the senior citizens who love to surf on the beach. They will stay at Delha Rote for around a month, and that's the main reason why they wanted a permanent resident to stay there.
The local community which was blinded by the shiny color of dollars without thinking twice giving their most valuable assets and didn't realize to the cause they will get.
Now, it's hard to even come for work and do their regular activities to grow the seaweed since the tourist who live around the beach will force them to go away because they think the seaweed farm make their beach dirty.
"Tourism is about demand and supply, the lack of local comunities' on knowledge makes them easily have their assets to the foreigner. And as far as I know, the building was legally built for restaurant or some villa," Fitri said.
Still according to her, she demand the government to open their eyes toward the issue and help the local community of Delha Rote East Nusa Tenggara to stand and built their strength back. She hope that the government will have more dialogue with the local community for further plan. (*)
